There are many controversies hounding a pregnant woman, among them fish oil and pregnancy. Even if you are not pregnant, you should be well aware of the importance of good nutrition, and if you are pregnant, engaging in healthy eating habits and taking the appropriate supplements help assure that you are healthy all throughout your pregnancy and that your baby will be born healthy, too.

Among those that your doctor will recommend that you must have in sufficient amounts are Omega 3 fatty acids, because these fatty acids are so essential in your baby’s brain development. Not only that, you yourself are a recipient of Omega-3′s health giving benefits. Most people believe that pregnancy is perhaps one of the happiest days of every woman’s life. Contrary to this, not all future mothers are ecstatic or joyous during their pregnancy. In fact, many women suffer from minor to serious cases of depression while they are pregnant.

During pregnancy, hormonal changes occur in a woman’s body. Pregnancy hormones make women more susceptible to anxiety and depression problems. As sudden feelings of sadness and low moods are generally regarded as expectable effects of pregnancy, women tend to ignore such signs, without knowing that they are probably suffering from depression.

I’ve read great thing’s about St. John’s Wort and it’s treatment of depression. However, I’ve been reading up on its interaction with oral contraceptives.(it’s briefly mentioned in the literature included with the pill) Apparently it ups the function of your liver and the hormones don’t stay in your system long enough. A reputable study found that this didn’t make women ovulate more often, but increased the risk of breakthrough bleeding, and a very small percentage of women could become pregnant. Anyone ever get pregnant or know anyone who got pregnant while taking the two? Is it worth the risk? Don’t get me wrong, if I realize there is ALWAYS a risk of pregnancy and I accept that but is it worth increasing that risk?

Most of us are aware of the benefits of having fish oil supplements during pregnancy but still there is a huge population of to be mothers who are deficient in it. Allow me to prove this.

Daily, I’m currently taking 10mg of Paxil for anxiety and 50mg of amitriptyline for migraines. I’ve suffered for so long with both conditions and it took me years to find the right medications to treat them. However, I’d also like to plan to become pregnant. My doctor tells me that while it’s not necessarily recommended, women can have successful pregnancies while taking anit-depression medication. Since I’m a big worrier, I was just hoping that someone out there who has been in this situation can share their story with me.

Taking Antidepressants During Pregnancy

I was put on provera because I had period every 2 weeks. I had very bad side effects. I thought I was going to loose my mind. I finished the pills for 2 weeks thinking it’s going to regulate my period. Then I had to go to the doctor again shortly after because my symptoms didn’t go away. Doctor ended up giving me 3 other antidepressent pills. I developed depression after taking those pills. I was never a depressed person, I never had anxiety either. Now these pills have alered my brains for good. How can I recover from that? I have stopped taking the pills since spring but still have the symptoms and it’s driving me crazy. I only took those pills for about 3 months. But it has done permanant damage to me. Now I am pregnant and have mood changes all day. Doctor is recommending that I take zoloft again because it’s safe during pregnancy. If that doesn’t work they want me to try other drugs. If I take more pills I will only get worse. Has anyone here has same experience like me?
