They are not recommended during pregnancy, yet serious depression is also risky for the pregnancy. I’m wondering if it was necessary for anyone out there and if so did you have any problems/side effects for you or the baby? I am 5 months and NOT taking anything. I have no history of serious depression, but this pregnancy has triggered some – I’ve been in a bad way for over 2 months but am struggling my way through.
FYI, I have discussed w/my doctors. They say basically, and I agree, it’s best not to take anything, UNLESS I become so depressed where it becomes dangerous. It’s very difficult but I take it day to day.
To the person who said it would be greedy to take drugs during pregnancy, it’s obvious you have no experience w/pregnancy & depression. Doctors do not put you on antidepressants unless it’s a grave situation. Is it healthy for a mother to be suicidal, unable to eat, etc? (I’m not that way, but I know there are cases like this). If the choice is medication or psychological trauma and danger of losing life, I would hope you’d take the small risk. I only wanted to hear from anyone who has actually taken them, please.

Based on the studies conducted, more than 80 percent of women lack DHA and EPA. Less than 3 percent of pregnant women are taking the right amounts of these fatty acids.
The rest fall short. Fish oil during pregnancy should not be taken for granted and should become part of your daily diet, especially when you are carrying a child because of the following reasons:
It helps in the development of your baby. We are talking about the overall growth and development of your unborn child.

I have always suffered severe depression, I became pregnant unexpectedly and was on 20mg Fluoxetine, I then weaned myself off under doctors supervision as I was not sure of the risks of taking this medication during pregnancy. However when I reached the second trimester I went into severe depression again and couldn’t cope, was always crying and arguing with my Fiance, so I went to see a specialist consultant in pregnancy and she perscribed me Fluoxetine 20mg again, she assured me that the risks are next to none and that if I didn’t treat the depression it would be worse for the baby.
Since I’ve been taking the meds I am SO much better and feeling a lot more myself, no longer argue at all with my partner and don’t get upset over nothing. I am now 23 weeks pregnant and feel the baby all the time, have had all my scans/blood tests and all is well.
I still worry that when the baby is born it may get withdrawn? I have been reassured by my Midwife who says she has a lot of patients on the drug and by 3 consultants. I know I am better on this drug but I still get scared even though I have read up so much about it.
My question is has anyone else been on this drug during pregnancy and how did you and the baby get on when you gave birth?
I am planning to breastfeed and have also been told this is low risk.

The multi-national tobacco companies should continue to receive the utter scorn of the worlds population as science has revealed their product and practices border on the criminal. Without going into to much detail take a look at what happens from the production of cigarettes through to the toxic chemical created and released by the burning process and maybe you will begin to understand what the act of smoking is actually doing to your body.
Taking it one step further, consider what the effects of smoking during pregnancy are on both the mother and the child. The effects range from mild to very extreme. Also, the effects of smoking during pregnancy, has negative repercussions not only on the baby but has continual implications through childhood and possibly into adulthood.

A co-workers daughter is 7 months pregnant and is very emotional. She is crying all of the time for no reason, is this normal? Myself and another co-worker have 3 children of our own and never experienced something so extreme. This girl is crying just because, there isn’t any reason behind her crying. Could she be showing signs of depression already? Her mother and boyfriend are already preparing to watch for symptoms once the baby is born.

I have battled with depression for several years now. I was previously on remeron prior to pregnancy and immediately stopped upon learning of my pregnancy. I am now 25 weeks. I have struggled with my depression every day, every moment, of this pregnancy. I think I have reached a breaking point. I do not get out of bed unless I have to and I am constantly sad (more like devastated). My depression has NEVER been this bad! I am seriously considering talking to my OB about taking anti-depressants. The only thing is that I am terrified of the risks to the baby. I would not forgive myself if I was not able to “tough it out” and the meds had some effect on the baby. I would like to know any of your personal experiences of pregnancy and anti-depressants and how your children were affected. What are considered the lowest risk anti-depressants during pregnancy? I would like as much information as I can before I speak to my doctor.
If you don’t know then please don’t answer. Telling me to ask my doctor does not answer the question I asked. I am going to ask my doctor. I am seeking some background knowledge to assist in making my decision.

Ever since my Fiancee left for AIT i’ve been uncontrollably sad. I cant get anything done because i cant seem to stop crying. I barely even get out of bed anymore. About 3 days ago i found out that he is being restarted and wont be home for another 6 weeks. He would be comming home on the 18th. Not now. I just dont know what to do anymore. I cant handle feeling like this.
