Is lilly-fluoxetine safe to use during pregnancy?
I have been recently prescribed lilly-fluoxetine for my depression and anxiety attacks, how would the dose or medication affect my baby? I am currently 5 months pregnant. The dr that prescribed the medication says that i will not harm the baby, how trusting can i be of that comment?

well this website says not to take it because the effects it has on newborn babies whos moms take it dosnt sound good. i would get a second oppinion.
I have been on fluoxetine for a few years and trying to conceive for 3 years, my GP said it was fine to take while pregnant and breatsfeeding so i had no intention of going off it.
Then when I finally got pregnant my GP called me in and said there is now some evidence (one trial) that taking fluoxetine past week 20 of pregnancy MIGHT be linked to an increase in heart conditions for babies.
However when I discussed this with my obstectrician she discounted it and said that was the results of one trial and there were hundreds which showed it was safe.
Also she said you had to weigh up the effect a depressed and/or anxious mother has on a baby.
I’m sorry but I dont have a straight forward answer for you. Just letting you know I was/am in the same boat. Currently I am 22 weeks pregnant and have weaned myself off the drug. I am fine now but completely aware this may change and am ready to reconsider my medication when/if that time comes.
