How to help someone with depression after pregnancy?

My sons friend just had a baby (week old). Already the girlfriend
is in major depression and refuses to take her medication. The
man is afraid to leave the baby, what should he do?

Call someone who can stay with her?
I had severe PPD after I had my son. my therapist said it was very close to being psychosis instead of depression. I DID NOTHING , no meds to get better and i survived it. DO NOT let her do this, i got lucky.
talk to her, as calm as possible that this is the right way to do this to be the utmost best mom she could possibly be. have her go out without the baby to get fresh air, to hang out with friends, etc because this helps out A LOT!! offer to clean house, or cook meals to help her out. talking is the best way to overcome any of this, support is what she needs.
i wish someone tried to do those things with me.
Try to get them out or have friends and family stay with her. Maybe they need someone to stay with the baby and them to just get out and grab dinner or a movie
I had depression after i had my daughter.. i was in complete denial! thank god i didnt have it in the way of hurting her i just hated the entire world around me! and got overwhelmed very easy! my mood was like a light switch! up and down like a yo yo! i did it all by myself no help! it was the hardest thing in the whole entire world.. he should be nervous if he sees anger in her with the baby! it is common for that to happen so he should have ppl do shifts of stopping by the house and letter her nap and talk and hold the baby and let her vent out frustration! we have a clinic here that has free counsellings and baby class every week i started going them once i stooped with all the bleeding and got back up on my feet talking to other moms seeing how others reacted knowing she isnt the only person going threw what she is going threw helps ! i didnt take my meds! i was quite a huge B*TCH let me tell u! but with suport of my hubby and taking all my crap and getting envloved with everything with me didnt make me feel alone! but i wish ppl came over more.. i felt like no one wanted to be around me n e more.. i didnt no what to do, i didnt get n e me time, i was alone, i was a bad mom for feeling the way i did.. its all about support! and comfort! and getting evolved with her so she isnt doing it alone! is a huge thing! aww good luck with that and what a good friend for even posting such a question
