Cure Depression Faster with Paxil

Article by Soleranz

Paxil : An Introduction

Paxil is used for treating depression, post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorder, pre menstrual dysphoric disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Paxil (paroxetine) works by acting on the nerve cells situated in brain. Human brain contains innumerable chemical compounds called as neurotransmitters, which act as messengers between nerve cells. When serotonin, one of these neurotransmitters, is released from the nerve cells, it lightens the mood. When serotonin gets reabsorbed by the nerve cells, it no longer shows any effect on the mood. Decreased serotonin release from the nerve cells triggers depression. Paxil works by inhibiting serotonin re-absorption into the nerve cells and prolongs the lightened mood caused due to serotonin release. Usually it takes 2 – 4 weeks for Paxil to give the desired results. Hence it’s recommended that you keep taking the medication even though you feel that you are not getting any benefits in the beginning.

Beware Of The Dangers Of Acne Medications

Article by Januz Dee

One of the dangers of acne medications are they can cause severe side effects for the users. Isotretinoin is advertised as Accutane in the United States and is prescribed when acne is very severe and nothing else works. It is a form of Vitamin A and works to lower the quantity of oil which is released by the skin. It also helps skin quickly renew itself. Nodulocystic acne is treated with Accutane when all other treatments have failed. Accutane can be taken in tablet form as an effective treatment for acne, but there are risks of serious side effects.

Side effects in women who are pregnant can include serious birth defects in their unborn baby. This is the reason FDA regulations are adamant that females of childbearing age are required to take two tests to make sure they are not pregnant before beginning a course of isotretinoin. These women are also required to use two types of birth control for a month previous to starting the treatment and during the Accutane treatment, plus a month after the treatment. It is also vital that they do not breast feed during the course of taking Accutane. Other potential side effects caused by taking isotretinoin can include abdominal pain, severe chest pain, and depression, thinning hair, diarrhea and rectal bleeding.

Paxil remains one of the most commonly prescribed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants on the market as many people have seen the symptoms of their behavioral disorders lessened with use of the medication. Doctors have prescribed Paxil to people suffering from stress, anxiety, depression and other conditions while providing warnings about the potential for certain Paxil side effects since it was released on the market in 1992. This still remains true today, however, the warnings of the potential side effects now include the risk of Paxil birth defects if the medication is used by women during or around their pregnancy. When Paxil was first released, patients weren’t told of the possible damage done to the unborn child if taken by a pregnant mother. This resulted in a number of women using Paxil and giving birth to a heart defect baby or a newborn suffering from other Paxil birth defects, such as clubbed foot or anal atresia. As more research was done on Paxil, it became clear the risks were too great and in 2005, the FDA reclassified Paxil as a Category D drug. Medications in this category specifically indicate a risk to the fetus when taken by a woman during pregnancy. While this move by the FDA has since greatly reduced the incidents of Paxil birth defects, it certainly wasn’t made soon enough. Mothers that have given birth to a heart defect baby that they later learned was a result of Paxil have a strong case for litigation against the makers of the medication, GlaxoSmithKline. Those that have hired quality representation have seen their Paxil lawsuits result in financial compensation being awarded, which is typically needed to offset the costs of medical care for their heart defect baby. Such compensation doesn’t make up for the damage caused by Paxil, but it lessens the long term blow and hardships they’ll be facing. The congenital heart conditions that fall under the umbrella of Paxil birth defects include tetralogy of fallot, transposition of the great arteries, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, double outlet right ventricle and other serious health problems. Doctors will usually recommend corrective surgery right away in hopes of preventing long term issues, but many times a heart defect baby will need to undergo multiple procedures if there’s any hope of recovery. With the help of an experienced Paxil attorney, you can file a prescription drug lawsuit against GlaxoSmithKline to hold them accountable for the pain and suffering they’ve caused your family.

Paxil, also known by its generic name paroxetine, is one of the worlds most widely prescribed antidepressants. Recently, however, Paxil’s Pregnancy category class was updated. In this update Paxil was moved to a category “D” medication instead of a category “C” for use during pregnancy. The update is to reflect a stronger warning about use during early pregnancy as there are chances for birth defects to occur. Drugs that are placed in Category “D” have shown higher risks to fetuses in studies of pregnant women. The benefits of the therapy may outweigh the risks in using drugs from this category. The FDA recently released a statement with regards to Paxil and pregnancy. The advisory released by the FDA states: “FDA is advising health care professionals to discuss the potential risk of birth defects with patients taking Paxil who plan to become pregnant or are in their first three months of pregnancy. Health care professionals should consider discontinuing Paxil (and switching to another antidepressant if indicated) in these patients. In some patients, the benefits of continuing Paxil may be greater than the potential risk to the fetus. FDA is advising health care professionals not to prescribe Paxil in women who are in the first three months of pregnancy or are planning pregnancy, unless other treatment options are not appropriate.”

Another danger to an unborn kid is that the risk of Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN), the failure of traditional circulatory transition that happens throughout birth. Newborns are in danger of experiencing below traditional lung operate that might cause respiratory distress. Also according to the FDA, early results from the two studies showed that women who took Paxil during the first three months of pregnancy were about 1.5 to two times as likely to have a baby with a heart defect as women who received other antidepressants or women in the general population. In one study, the risk of heart defects in babies whose mothers had taken Paxil early in pregnancy was about 2%, compared with a 1% risk in the whole population. In the other study, the risk of heart defects in babies whose mothers had taken Paxil in the first three months of pregnancy was 1.5%, compared with 1% in babies whose mothers had taken other antidepressants in the first three months of pregnancy. The FDA has begun to warn about the potential side effects of Paxil especially those in pregnant women. If you would like to start using Paxil for your signs and symptoms of depression, consult with your doctor first.
