Women are more prone to depression for several reasons and the most important are biological and social.
Because we have hormonal changes every 28 days, we have our natural highs and lows that we deal with. We should never try to correct these natural changes. We and others must understand them.
Socially, women often become programmed to be less strong, less resilient, less responsible and more pliant and make others happy. This is not mentally healthy.
The girl’s chances of relapse into depression will strongly depend on what important life skills she has learned during her time in therapy.
You must look at her recovery in this way: She does not have a chronic form of depression because she is being taken off of medication by her doctor. And so, short term counseling and medication has helped her.
If she needs this again in her life, she should get the medical help she needs rather than suffer with depression in her life. Because depression can be a terribly life consuming disease if not corrected early.
I wish her and you all the best.
Anti depressive drugs can treat depression in great percentage… especially using some combined drugs psychiatry can get over all kind of depressions… (except some clinical experiences that they need a clinic and complex approaches and extremely deep and complicated with social familial or personal features and stress factors.. or some serious somatic diseases characterized by depression) but daily polyclinic conditions and individual examinations are ending decreases of depressive symptoms in 15 days and this improvement period can continue for three months to expect an exact wellness for major depression… i advice you not to leave follow up of your clinician and not to forget there are many approaches to treat depression like using drugs or some kind of psychotherapies or both… follow your clinician advices…
