Based on the studies conducted, more than 80 percent of women lack DHA and EPA. Less than 3 percent of pregnant women are taking the right amounts of these fatty acids.
The rest fall short. Fish oil during pregnancy should not be taken for granted and should become part of your daily diet, especially when you are carrying a child because of the following reasons:

I have always suffered severe depression, I became pregnant unexpectedly and was on 20mg Fluoxetine, I then weaned myself off under doctors supervision as I was not sure of the risks of taking this medication during pregnancy. However when I reached the second trimester I went into severe depression again and couldn’t cope, was always crying and arguing with my Fiance, so I went to see a specialist consultant in pregnancy and she perscribed me Fluoxetine 20mg again, she assured me that the risks are next to none and that if I didn’t treat the depression it would be worse for the baby.
Since I’ve been taking the meds I am SO much better and feeling a lot more myself, no longer argue at all with my partner and don’t get upset over nothing. I am now 23 weeks pregnant and feel the baby all the time, have had all my scans/blood tests and all is well.
I still worry that when the baby is born it may get withdrawn? I have been reassured by my Midwife who says she has a lot of patients on the drug and by 3 consultants. I know I am better on this drug but I still get scared even though I have read up so much about it.
My question is has anyone else been on this drug during pregnancy and how did you and the baby get on when you gave birth?
I am planning to breastfeed and have also been told this is low risk.

I was put on provera because I had period every 2 weeks. I had very bad side effects. I thought I was going to loose my mind. I finished the pills for 2 weeks thinking it’s going to regulate my period. Then I had to go to the doctor again shortly after because my symptoms didn’t go away. Doctor ended up giving me 3 other antidepressent pills. I developed depression after taking those pills. I was never a depressed person, I never had anxiety either. Now these pills have alered my brains for good. How can I recover from that? I have stopped taking the pills since spring but still have the symptoms and it’s driving me crazy. I only took those pills for about 3 months. But it has done permanant damage to me. Now I am pregnant and have mood changes all day. Doctor is recommending that I take zoloft again because it’s safe during pregnancy. If that doesn’t work they want me to try other drugs. If I take more pills I will only get worse. Has anyone here has same experience like me?

The multi-national tobacco companies should continue to receive the utter scorn of the worlds population as science has revealed their product and practices border on the criminal. Without going into to much detail take a look at what happens from the production of cigarettes through to the toxic chemical created and released by the burning process and maybe you will begin to understand what the act of smoking is actually doing to your body.
Taking it one step further, consider what the effects of smoking during pregnancy are on both the mother and the child. The effects range from mild to very extreme. Also, the effects of smoking during pregnancy, has negative repercussions not only on the baby but has continual implications through childhood and possibly into adulthood.

Women who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder are often hesitant to have children. Not only is there fear of transferring the disorder on to the child, there is a concern about mom being off her meds during pregnancy. Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder which causes it’s victims to suffer from devastating depression and horrifying mania. The hormones which are a normal part of pregnancy can be very scary for moms with bipolar. In addition to dealing with their illness and the normal stresses of pregnancy, women who suffer from bipolar disorder have to think about the safety of their fetus as they take medication which can save their own lives.
Pregnant women with bipolar disorder are seven times more likely to have a hospital admission for their illness than other women. Careful planning is needed for women with bipolar who plan to get pregnant. Since sudden changes in medication can increase side effects and relapse of illness, most women have to find a doctor to work with them on which medications are safe to take during pregnancy. It’s advisable to have both your prenatal physician and your psychologist present for at least one meeting to discuss medication alternatives.

A certain amount of hair loss is considered to be quite a physiological routine but excessive loss is to be taken into account. Generally, we lose 60-80 hairs a day but more than that can be caused due to eczema, stressful conditions, alopecia, or a change in hormone levels. Hair Loss could be due to taking certain medications or during pregnancy, excess intake alcohol or nicotine or quietly because of tying the hair back too harshly.

Being pregnant is a great time for most women. They are so excited to be on their way to giving birth to the child of their dreams and they are very happy to have their dreams finally come true. However some women have a hard time dealing with the stress of being pregnant and go through bouts of pregnancy depression during their term.
